A content management system (CMS) is a framework that developers use to build a website, but it is also what you use to manage and update content on your website. A sitemap outlines all the proposed pages on your new website and how they are connected. Having an overview of the entire website allows you to see how easy services are to find – perhaps they need to be in the top menu or top fold of the home page, for example. Sitemaps help identify, sort and prioritise website content and key messages and help to map out user journeys – for example, monitoring the number of clicks it takes to reach information.

Code reviews are a manual and systematic approach to checking code for any mistakes and ensuring that the website is secure. Errors are not always coding typos, but can be inconsistencies that can lead to security risks.

A user journey is a route a web user takes to reach their goal when using a website. Some believe a well-designed user journey will enable users to achieve their goal in no more than three clicks. But, the focus is about how clear the visitor journey is – how easy is it for them to get from the landing page to the information they need? The easier the journey, the more likely they are to return and leave with a positive experience.

Agile is a way of managing software development projects work through regular communication and collaboration. Unlike the traditional waterfall method, instead of breaking the project down into phases, an agile project is broken down into business requirements. The project then consists of several iterations, and in each iteration a small number of business requirements are tackled.
